This bear was dubbed “Miracle Bear”. Lewis Drake of Kentucky informed me that business was going to interfere with the first five days of the bear season so he would be late arriving. Weather held him in Kodiak for an additional five days. Winter conditions prevailed and very few bears were left at accessible altitudes for Lewis. But there are always a few greedy ones looking for that last meal before denning. We got this guy guarding the burial mound of his freshly killed deer. Lewis made a nice killing shot and this bear will now live in Lewis’ den.
